FRUITS OF ONE TREE

In my opinion intolerance and prejudice and are based on fear and ignorance.

The facts about multiculturism in Australia at the official Government website.

'Multicultural' is a term that describes the cultural and linguistic diversity of Australian society. Cultural and linguistic diversity was a feature of life for the first Australians, well before European settlement. It remains a feature of modern Australian life, and it continues to give us distinct social, cultural and business advantages. The Australian Government's multicultural policy addresses the consequences of this diversity in the interests of the individual and society as a whole. It recognises, accepts, respects and celebrates our cultural diversity. The freedom of all Australians to express and share their cultural values is dependent on their abiding by mutual civic obligations. More here

We should focus on the human and ethical values that all human beings hold in common, instead of superficiual cultural and religious differences?

This quotation and the link express my views

"Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch. Deal ye one with another with the utmost love and harmony, with friendliness and fellowship - Baha'u'llah"

Hi Bob and Bob-Blog-Readers

I am also appalled at this type of intolerance and craving for homogeneity. Since when has Australia even been so? Certainly not in 40,000 years.
Have you seen the website started by a (very diverse) group of concerned Australians called, Australians All? Very interesting articles there to read and reflect on.
Cheers

Hi Bob et al,

I received the same email today.

The email to which you are referring is a recycled USA email with our flags and a few Aussie sayings replacing theirs. Google "You have the Right to Leave" and you will find the original Letter to the Editor in the USA. For example, "In God we Trust" is the motto of the USA not Australia:

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. (36 United States Code,Section 86)

"In God We Trust" has been on our coins since 1863. (even before it was our national motto) (31 United States Code, Section 5112 [D] [1]

Australia doesn't have an official motto:

(This extract is from the website of the Dept of Foreign Affairs)

Australia has never adopted any official motto or faunal or bird emblem. By popular tradition, however, the kangaroo and emu are widely accepted as national faunal and bird emblems. The golden wattle, Acacia pycnantha Benth, was proclaimed the official national floral emblem in August 1988.

For many years, the motto ‘Advance Australia' appeared on unofficial Coats of Arms, even before the Federation of the States in 1901. It was included in the 1908 Arms, and was popularly accepted in association with the 19th century song ‘Advance Australia Fair'.

I too am a migrant and grew up as a Pom amongst many Italians, Yugoslavs, Dutch, Spanish, other Poms and Scots as well as Aussies. That is what I loved about Australia then and now. I love that I have friends of many nationalities but we are all Aussies in our mind and outlook regardless of where our parents happened to be when we were born. We are so blessed and have a wonderful country.

Please do not believe every email you receive. Please question what seems unreasonable. Someone, somewhere wants this email to continue. As true Aussies we need to stop it in its tracks. Please help.
